The Music Journalism and Criticism Group What makes music good or bad? And how to evaluate it? How to talk about music and how to get people to actually listen to what you are saying about? And finally, how to describe music in the most charming way? If you want to get answers to even more questions, join us! Music and media in the 21st century remain inseparable. In the Music Journalism and Criticism Group you will explore the secrets of the written and spoken word, gain insight into music criticism and know the principles of music journalism. In addition, you will discover fundamentals of good promotion and organization of artistic or scientific events. We acquire knowledge from practice – we cooperate with people from the world of media, representing music criticism, journalism (online, press, radio, television), PR, production or management. Every year we organize a scientific conference Music – Media – Marketing, inviting the most prominent experts in these three subjects who provide lectures and workshops. So far we have been visited by, among others, Marcin Majchrowski, Dorota Kozińska, Adam Suprynowicz, Kinga A. Wojciechowska, Piotr Metz, Magda Miśka-Jackowska, Mateusz Ciupka, Piotr Matwiejczuk i Robert Kamyk. The Music Journalism and Criticism Group (formerly “Piąte Koło u Wozu”) was founded and is formed by students of Music in Media specialization, but all newcomers who would like to improve their skills and develop their knowledge are more than welcome.

Koło Naukowe Rytmiki i Improwizacji The Group was founded in the academic year of 2017/2018. The Group members are involved in artistic, academic and promotional activity. Its founders created a platform on which they can exchange thoughts, share their experiences and inspire each other. The main objectives of the Group comprise developing knowledge, sharing it, undertaking their own scientific initiatives, experimenting and searching for choreographic and musical ideas in their own choreographies.
The Group members organize meetings, workshops with invited guests, outings to concerts and theatres. They successfully collaborate with other student research groups operating at the Academy, just to mention Z opery na Broadway [From Opera to Broadway] project developed together with the Opera Lovers Student Research Group.

logo knkitm wersja skrot The Composition and Music Theory Student Research Group focuses mainly on theoretical-musical research and compositional pursuits. The Group’s activity involves, inter alia, meetings dedicated to the works of particular composers, currents and phenomena of the 20th- and 21st-century music, as well as organisation of concerts presenting compositions written by young composers belonging to the Group. The most significant achievements of recent years comprise a few presentations during Musical Forum of Artists and Scientists: the Tramwaj nr 8 [Tramway no. 8] and Barwy [Colors] projects, as well as the Piętro Wyżej [The Floor Above] concert as part of the Music-Media-Marketing Conference. What makes an annual tradition is “The (theoretically) Compositional Concert”, during which works written at counterpoint and harmony classes are performed. The Group members also participate in all-Polish and international academic conferences.
Another, equally important field of the Group’s activity is participation in the “Musica Moderna” sessions. Students, twice a year, have an opportunity to take part in the event as composers, performers and active audience members – commentators. As part of after-concert discussions, students get familiar with the rudiments of music criticism, thus learning to formulate opinions on the pieces they have just heard. Also, they frequently get a chance to query the composers.
The Composition and Music Theory Student Research Group members are students of the two fields of study, as well as students of new specializations: Film Music Scoring and Music in Media. The Group’s formula is open – those willing to participate in meetings are most welcome.
