55 years have passed since the Chamber Music Competition was first organised in Łódź in 1961. The initiator of this venture, professor Kiejstut Bacewicz, rector of the Academy and now patron of the Competition, was a great artist and a tireless promoter of chamber music. His vision of promoting the beauty and richness of chamber music is still relevant. Today, it is with great satisfaction that we look back with over half a century’s perspective at the growth of the Competition, which from a local contest for the academic milieu developed into an artistic event of international importance. This year’s XIX edition hosts over 100 chamber music ensembles from all over the world, and the participants are over 250. The main organiser of the Competition is the Department of Chamber Music of the Academy of Music in Łódź, which constantly strives to improve its format, ensuring the unceasing interest of new generations of young artists.

At this point, I would like to express my sincere thanks to the management and employees of the Departament of Chamber Music of the Grażyna and Kiejstut Bacewicz Academy of Music in Łódź for all their efforts put into the organisation of the Competition.

And to all participants: I hope that you draw inspiration from the richness of chamber music, discover its beauty and make it an integral part of your future artistic life.
